A virtual summit of Caribbean Community (CARICOM) leaders – originally scheduled for Friday to address the ongoing socio-economic and political crisis in Haiti – has been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.

The CARICOM Secretariat, based in Guyana, announced the delay and confirmed that a new date for the meeting will be set at a later time. No specific rescheduling details have been released yet, but officials expressed regret for “any inconvenience caused.”

The 41st Inter-Sessional Meeting was also expected to cover key regional matters, including member states’ readiness to implement provisions of the free movement protocol under the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME). This initiative aims to facilitate the seamless movement of goods, services, skilled labor, and capital across the 15-nation bloc.

Sources familiar with the planning had indicated that the session would focus on advancing regional integration efforts ahead of the upcoming in-person summit, set to take place in Jamaica from July 6–8. During that gathering, Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness is expected to assume the chairmanship of CARICOM from Barbadian Prime Minister Mia Mottley.

Further updates on the rescheduled virtual meeting are anticipated later this month. -(CMC)
