CARICOM holds talks with Aruba on associate membership

Monday, December 17, 2018

The Secretary General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ambassador Irwin LaRocque has met with the Prime Minister of Aruba Evelyn Wever-Croes on associate membership in the 15 member regional grouping — the Caribbean Community for the Dutch speaking territory.

CARICOM heads of government earlier this year mandated the Secretary General to begin the process of negotiations with the various territories in order to better determine their expectations of associate membership, and what benefits the relationship could yield for the community.

The heads have also agreed to continue to examine the issue of an enlargement policy for Secretary General which currently has 15 full members and 5 associate members.

The Secretary General will also go on to visit Curacao and St. Maarten later this week. -(CMC)
