CARICOM Chief Urges Bold Africa-Caribbean Economic Alliance

St. Kitts & Nevis Prime Minister Terrance Drew, serving as chair of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), called for decisive, action-oriented measures to strengthen Africa–Caribbean relations, urging both regions to convert shared history into tangible economic gains.
Speaking at the inaugural Afri-Caribbean Investment Summit, Drew said progress must be driven by strategic collaboration and sustained commitment to development. Addressing the theme “Caribbean Perspectives on Unity and Prosperity,” he emphasized the need for long-term vision to advance global positioning.
The week-long summit, organized by Aquarian Consult Limited in partnership with the government of St. Kitts & Nevis, aims to build economic partnerships and establish a transatlantic trade corridor.
Framed under “One Voice, One Vision,” the initiative forms part of a broader “Reverse Middle Passage” strategy to create direct commercial links between Africa and the Caribbean, reducing reliance on European and North American intermediaries.
Drew said engagement with Africa reflects a wider effort to reconnect historically linked populations while advancing trade, investment, and South–South cooperation. He positioned St. Kitts & Nevis as a potential bridge between the regions and called for “courage, clarity, and decisive action” to secure shared prosperity.
