Barbados: Opposition leader Mia Mottley to file no confidence motion in Freundel Stuart administration

The Opposition Barbados Labor Party (BLP) has revealed that it will file a motion of no confidence against the Freundel Stuart administration.
BLP leader Mia Mottley said that the country was “lurching from crisis to crisis”, as she pointed to the latest Moody’s downgrade of the island-nation, the recent industrial unrest and ongoing environmental problems at some public schools.
Mottley, who was joined by several of her parliamentary colleagues, added that Barbados seems to be “adrift” while the administration remains “mum, silent and comatosed”.
The last motion of no confidence filed by Mottley back in 2013 was defeated, as all government members of parliament (MPs) present voted ‘No’ and all Opposition MPs voted ‘Yes’.
However, Mottley said the decision to bring another motion of no confidence motion in the ruling Democratic Labor Party administration was not simply about winning a vote. She was insistent that the current issues needed to be highlighted, as well as addressed.
The Stuart administration currently commands 16 of the 30 seats in the country’s legislature, with the opposition BLP assured of the support of 12 MPs.
