Asafa Powell, the former 100 metres world record-holder, will race indoors in Britain for the first time in his career when he competes at the Aviva Grand Prix in Birmingham on February 18.
Powell, who has not competed anywhere on the indoor circuit since 2004, said the decision to shake up his usual winter routine was part of a new strategy to get him to the Olympic start-line next summer in the best physical shape.
“My coach and I have been speaking about the ideal preparation for next year’s Olympics and we think doing an indoor season is the best move for me,” he said.
“I love competing indoors and to get the opportunity to race in Birmingham is really exciting.
