Arthur Robinson – former President and Prime Minister of Trinidad & Tobago dies at 87

Former President of Trinidad & Tobago, Arthur Raymond Robinson died Wednesday after a prolonged illness. He was 87.

Robinson, who was also a former prime minister of the twin-island nation, died at the private St. Clair Medical Hospital in the capital, where he had been a patient since March 8.

Robinson, who was shot in the leg during the attempt by members of the radical Islamist Jamaat Al Muslimeen group to overthrow his government in July 1990, had been confined to a wheel chair for several years.

Robinson is the only person to serve as prime minister (1986-1991) and president (1997-2003) of Trinidad & Tobago. -(CMC)
