Antigua & Barbuda Sets April 30 General Election

Wednesday, April 8, 2026
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has called a general election in Antigua & Barbuda for April 30, with nominations scheduled for April 13 following the issuance of the writ by Governor-General Rodney Williams.
Addressing supporters, Browne urged a decisive victory for the ruling Antigua & Barbuda Labour Party across all 17 constituencies and signaled a public holiday if the party prevails.
The vote is expected to be a direct contest between the ABLP and the opposition United Progressive Party. The Democratic National Alliance has said it will not field candidates.
In the January 2023 election, the ABLP secured nine of 17 seats, with the remainder split between the UPP and an independent candidate.
