Antigua & Barbuda Parliament to Be Dissolved April 1, Elections to Follow

Gaston Browne has announced that Parliament will be dissolved on April 1, 2026, clearing the way for a general election expected later in the month. He said he had formally advised Rodney Williams to act under the Antigua & Barbuda Constitution Order 1981.
The governing Antigua & Barbuda Labour Party won nine seats in the January 2023 election, with the opposition United Progressive Party and an independent sharing the remainder.
Prime Minister Browne said the dissolution could have been immediate, allowing an election by April 17, but was delayed to give the opposition more time to prepare. Cabinet will decide next week when to issue the writ of election; once issued, voting must occur within 21 days.
The timeline will be set in accordance with the Representation of the People Act 2001. Further announcements are expected on candidate nominations and the final election date.
