Antigua & Barbuda Forges Visa-Free Ties with Ghana, Kenya, and Benin at UNGA

Monday, September 29, 2025

Antigua & Barbuda deepened its global diplomatic outreach during the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) by signing visa waiver agreements with Ghana, Kenya, and Benin – marking a strategic expansion of ties between the Caribbean nation and key African partners.

On the sidelines of UNGA high-level meetings in New York, Antigua & Barbuda’s Foreign Minister E.P. Chet Greene formalized the agreements with his counterparts: Ghana’s Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs Musalia Mudavadi, and Benin’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Olushegun Adjadi Bakari.

The visa-free arrangements will facilitate greater people-to-people exchanges, boost tourism, enhance trade opportunities, and strengthen cultural and diplomatic relations between the nations – all of which share historical and developmental affinities as members of the Global South.

Minister Greene also extended formal invitations to Ghana, Kenya, and Benin to attend the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), which Antigua & Barbuda will host. The summit aims to spotlight priorities of small states and advance collective action within the Commonwealth.

“These agreements reflect our shared commitment to building bridges across the Atlantic,” Greene said. “They open doors to mutual prosperity, mobility, and deeper cooperation between our peoples.”

The move aligns with Antigua & Barbuda’s broader foreign policy goals of fostering South-South collaboration and positioning the Caribbean as a proactive partner in global affairs.
