Anti malaria soap creation earns 2 African students $25,000 innovation award

Two African students, Gérard Niyondiko and Moctar Dembélé have won the US$25,000 Global Social Venture Competition award for their creation of a malaria repellant soap using local herbs.
Malaria is a deadly mosquito-borne disease that affects millions each year in Africa and around the world. According to figures from the World Health Organization, malaria costs an estimated US$12 billion in lost productivity in Africa per year resulting from the 300 million cases reported of the disease.
The Global Social Venture Competition is the only international competition of social Business Plans, dedicated to students, young graduates, and entrepreneurs with high social and/or environmental startups.
Niyondiko and Dembélé are the first non Americans to win the award.
