Another oil spill reports in the waters off The Bahamas

Bahamas ministry of Transport and Aviation has reported another oil spill on Grand Bahama – the same area that an oil spill occurred this past February.
The Bahamas Oil Refining Company reported the spill last Friday. The cause of the oil spill is yet to be determined. The oil slick is said to have covered a 21-meter (70 feet) stretch of rocks on the beach in the vicinity of the oil refining company’s pipelines that connect with a jetty.
In an official statement issued by the ministry revealed that the Ports Department had responded to the “small quantity of oil” spilled as soon as it had occurred.
“While this appears to be an incident involving a small amount of oil, the ministry is very concerned about the occurrence of yet another emission of oil in Bahamian waters, particularly having regard to the possible impact on the quality of life of residents in the affected area,” read the statement.
On February 15, the Bahamas Oil Refining Company reported an oil spill from a pipeline containing oil residue – it was unclear how much fuel had spilled. It was the second oil spill this year reported by the refining company. The first oil spill occurred on January 20 when 795 liters (210 gallons) of diesel fuel spilled in the waters off Grand Bahama while a ship was being refuelled at the Bahamas Oil Refining Company’s facilities.
