Aliko Dangote – the founder, President and CEO of the Dangote Group has been listed by Forbes Magazine as one of Africa’s most generous philanthropists.
Mr. Dangote, who happens to be Africa’s wealthiest man – and in turn the richest black man in the world, donated at least US$35 million in 2012.
The charitable causes that Dangote has donated to include: the Nigerian flood relief effort – an estimated US$6 million; six Nigerian universities – US$6.3 million; an additional US$3 million to the development of the Bayero State University Business school; and he has partnered with MicroSoft founder Bill Gates to fund initiatives for the treatment HIV/AIDS, malaria and polio in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa.
