Tuesday, July 21, 2015
Jason Njoku’s African movie streaming platform iROKOtv has just obtained a competitor.
Enter Afrostream – a movie streaming service that only features African and African American content.
According to Tonjé Bakang, CEO and co-founder of Afrostream, as a child, he sought role models who looked like him, and who he could relate to. Sadly, there weren’t many.
Bakang adds “there are a lot of successful athletes and artists, but it’s hard to find African and African American movies.”
Afrostream, started with just a Facebook page in January 2014 and now has over 70,000 fans. The company officially launches in September, and will initially be available in Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Belgium, France and Switzerland.
