African entrepreneurs Meck Khalfan and Ani Onuorah develop the Puku charger – a device with more style and bang

African entrepreneurs Meck Khalfan and Ani Onuorah have developed a high-end portable charger that he hopes will one day help power the world.
The Puku portable charger – named after an African antelope – is not only a high-power charger, but also stylish.
The larger version, Puku S8, retails at US$99 and packs quite a punch. It is light but it has a total capacity 8,000 milliampere-hours – which means that an iPhone 6 that is running out of battery power – can be fully charged at least three times.
The lighter model, the Puku Light is good for two full charges and retails for US$49.
Khalfan and Onuorah say demand has been exceeding expectations since the company launched in 2013, they add that the idea for the device was conceived as a matter of practicality inspired by Hurricane Sandy in 2012, when the power in New York and surrounding areas went out.
Sales of the device have been very successful in the United States, in 2014, Puku formed a new multi-year partnership with Victoria’s Secret as the official portable charger for the brand’s fashion show.
The device has already been introduced in Tanzania, Nigeria, and South Africa, and looking to expand into the continent in the next few months in addition to expansion into Asia and Europe.
