Tuesday, March 12, 2013

Jamaica’s Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller has declared her support of Jamaican Whycliffe ‘Dave’ Cameron’s bid for the Presidency of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB).

In her endorsement, Prime Minister Simpson-Miller said Jamaica is a nation of cricket enthusiasts whose cricketers have distinguished themselves with excellent performance at the highest regional and international levels.

The prime minister said that as the region seeks to chart a new course for the development of the sport she is confident that the process and West Indies cricket will benefit from Cameron’s talent, passion and considerable experience spanning more than three decades.

“We would expect no less from him if he were to take over the reins and are confident that a renewal of West Indies cricket will result under his leadership. We place our full support behind his candidacy for the Presidency of the WICB,” Ms. Simpson-Miller concluded.

Cameron has also received the endorsement of the Jamaica Cricket Association. The elections for the new WICB President will take place later this month in Barbados.
