Four Easy Tips For Better Health

Taking control of your health can seem like a daunting task, especially if you’ve been neglecting it for a long time! You may feel like you have so much weight to lose, that you’ll never be able to do “enough” to get on track or that you’ve gone so long without working out that you’ll embarrass yourself in the gym or that you just can’t find a way to get more sleep or…enough with the excuses! Make your health a priority now before it makes itself an emergency later. Check out four relatively simple ways to improve your treatment of your body.
1) Get More Rest: “They sleep, we grind” is a great little phrase to make you feel like you’re working harder than the next person; here’s a reality check: if you aren’t getting any sleep, your abilities are compromised. You will eventually crash and burn. Even if you are working full-time and going to school or raising a family, you have to figure out a way to get some rest. The suggested eight hours may be a bit too much to ask, but if you sit down with your ‘to-do list’ for the week and spend all hours well, you might be surprised to find that you are wasting thirty or forty minutes each day that can be spent sleeping.
2) Move Something: Your body needs to be exercised daily; if you aren’t ready for the gym grind, start slowly adding physical activity to your routine. Skip the bus that connects to your train and walk the extra ten blocks. Take the stairs. Check out workout routines on YouTube (being sure to start slowly if you are new to exercising). Take a stroll during your lunch hour.
3) Fill Up On Fiber: Food manufacturers have recently started advertising their products’ fiber content, but don’t let the trendiness deter you. A fiber rich diet is excellent for your health and can prevent high cholesterol AND aid digestion. Fiber is a undigestable carbohydrate and it can help to keep you full enough to prevent overeating. Get fiber from whole grains, veggies such as spinach and broccoli, fruits and beans.
4) Stay Hydrated: Most people fail to drink enough water each day, which is sad considering the number of people across the globe who would kill to have our access to clean, running H20. Aim to drink at LEAST one ounce for every pound of your body weight. Skip the sugary sodas and fancy coffee drinks that add empty calories to your diet and have water with every meal, before, during and after workouts and throughout the work day.
